Salary: $105,000-$110,000

Department Summary & Job Purpose:

The Director of Strategic Content is an experienced communications professional who will be part of a strategic, results-oriented team. The Director will be responsible for planning and executing outstanding strategic communications and marketing content that elevates and promotes the College while advancing Mount Holyoke’s brand image. This position is hybrid with a minimum of 2 days on-campus each week; however, due to the nature of the work, flexibility with the schedule may be granted by the AVP for Marketing & Communications.


Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  •  Collaborate with the Offices of Advancement and Admission in the development of strategic marketing programs that reflect and promote the Mount Holyoke mission, values, and beliefs. 
  • Together with the AVP, lead strategic marketing and communications at the campus level, including a dedicated focus on internal communications content and creative brand content. 
  • Partner with the two other department directors (Web and News/Media Relations) in directing the efforts of the marketing and communications staff, implementing marketing and communications programs, supporting the communications needs of all campus academic and administrative divisions, and implementing the Mount Holyoke brand both internally and externally. 
  • Direct and manage all creative and brand projects for the department and the College. 
  • Develop and lead a social media strategy that considers both platform strengths and multiple audiences. 
  • Contribute both tactically and strategically to the editorial direction and content.
  • Supervise a team of graphic design, video/photo and social media staff. 
  • Help lead departmental and interdepartmental meetings. 

Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in marketing, communication, digital media, or a related field, plus a minimum of 8 years of experience with demonstrated excellence in communication, public relations, social media, brand management, and/or marketing.
• Understanding of brand development and management, vendor management, web editing, and graphic design. Advanced knowledge of social media.
• Experience in managing and developing a diverse staff of marketing and communications professionals, including creative services.
• Excellent writing skills and the ability to use language effectively.
• Strong understanding of how to successfully manage and deploy brand assets (photography, videography, print, digital design, etc.)
• Demonstrated experience planning and managing budgets and other departmental resources.
• The ability to manage multiple campus relationships and assignments across the entire institution.
• The ability to internalize the College’s institutional priorities and to apply those priorities to “the work.”
• Experience in strategic marketing as it applies to education, specifically advancement- and enrollment-related communications.
• Must understand emerging media channels and their relevance to target audiences.
• Excellent writing and speaking skills; Must be able to follow up and follow through with an attention to detail; Possess a good work ethic, be committed to campus goals, represent the College well, and have a sense of community; Highly effective collaborative and interpersonal skills; Must be able to interact effectively with internal and external audiences, including faculty, staff, and students. Ability to clearly articulate the value of a liberal arts education from a women’s college that is gender diverse.

Preferred Qualifications: • Master's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field.
• Experience in education administration.


Compliance Requirements: 

Physical Demands: • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. A job is considered sedentary if traversing is only required occasionally, and all other criteria for sedentary work are met.
• Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
• Sufficient clarity of speech required includes those which permit the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
• The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading.
• Employee operates office equipment and computers to perform essential duties and responsibilities

Working Conditions: • The employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
• Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Activities occur inside and outside environments.
