Department Summary & Job Purpose:
The Facilities Management Planning & Construction group supports the administration, faculty, staff and students in the quality planning and development of facilities projects that support our mission. Our talented staff work in various crafts including, cleaning (night and day custodial, housekeeping), building trades (painting, carpentry, locksmith, electrical, HVAC, plumbing), as well as, on the grounds, and in the stockroom. Our office handles over 18,000 telephone calls per year and we respond to over 12,000 service requests. We are responsible for maintaining 300 acres and more than 2,000,000 square feet of property in 100+ buildings.
Core Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning, or HVAC, shop is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of hot water heating systems, chilled water cooling systems, building sprinkler (fire suppression) systems, refrigeration systems, and the computerized control building automation systems. This department also maintains the campus underground distribution of High and Low Pressure Steam as well as the Fire loop water mains. Additionally, they maintain and perform daily testing of the Kendall Pool filtration system. This position requires a willingness and enthusiasm to perform a broad spectrum of job duties (sometimes in inclement weather); the ability to work effectively as an individual and as a member of a team; and availability for overtime- and call-in assignments. In addition, the successful candidate should display a willingness to work with other departments on an as-needed assigned basis.
•Journeyman sprinkler fitters license with 5 years’ experience.
•Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in operating and maintaining HVAC systems as well as experience building automation systems.
•Must be willing to adjust hours and be available for emergency call-ins.
•Must have a valid driver’s license and be in good physical condition with an ability to communicate well with a variety of people.
•The ability to work outside in all seasons and in all weather conditions.
•The ability to handle and move heavy materials.
•The willingness to provide and use their own hand tools.
•A willingness to perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications: This position requires a willingness and enthusiasm to perform a broad spectrum of job duties (sometimes in inclement weather).
License/Certifications: Journeyman sprinkler fitters license
Physical Demands: •Handle 1 to 100 pounds of load resistance on an occasional basis.
•Work with arms raised above shoulder level to work in ceilings areas or on light fixtures.
•Work at heights greater than 10 feet.
•Travel across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
