Department Summary & Job Purpose:
The Facilities Management Planning & Construction group supports the administration, faculty, staff and students in the quality planning and development of facilities projects that support our mission. Our talented staff work in various crafts including, cleaning (night and day custodial, housekeeping), building trades (painting, carpentry, locksmith, electrical, HVAC, plumbing), as well as, on the grounds, and in the stockroom. Our office handles over 18,000 telephone calls per year and we respond to over 12,000 service requests. We are responsible for maintaining 300 acres and more than 2,000,000 square feet of property in 100+ buildings.
Core Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Mount Holyoke College seeks applications for the Supervisor of Housekeeping Services position. This individual will supervise staff members including student employees and the addition of temporary staff during peak periods including the summer. This position generally will work a Monday through Friday schedule, starting at 5:45 am. However, candidates must be flexible to occasionally work weekends or off hours. This position is considered a working supervisor’s role, also classified as Essential Personnel, reporting to work when required if the College is closed or delayed due to weather emergencies and other foreseen circumstances. The supervisor reports to the Assistant Director of Landscape and Cleaning Services. Responsibilities: •Create and maintain positive working relationships with staff, customers and service providers. •Organize and delegate daily work assignments. •Schedule and coordinate service and supply delivery. •Recommend and coordinate staff training, including a quality assurance program. •Track daily attendance and maintain accurate staff payroll. •Other administrative and project-oriented tasks and assignments as needed. - (Essential)
Qualifications: •Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills.
•Knowledge in computer use, Microsoft Office, and experience working with structural cleaning programs.
•Ability to be discrete when working on confidential matters.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference may be given to candidates possessing experience in a leadership role in environmental services, or a commercial, health care or academic setting (residential campus setting preferred) Prior experience working in a unionized setting and ability to evaluate services and methods preferred.
Physical Demands: •Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds unassisted.
•Must be able to safely access campus buildings, climb stairs and step ladders, manipulate tools, machinery and equipment, perform manual tasks, and traverse the campus unassisted.
Working Conditions: •Work conditions can vary significantly. Position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, walking, crouching, kneeling, stooping, twisting and bending.
•May have contact with wet or slippery conditions as well as weather related to extreme temperatures.
•May have contact with chemicals, fumes, and temporary loud conditions.
