Department Summary & Job Purpose:
Mount Holyoke College Club Ice Hockey is seeking a coach for the upcoming 2021-2022 season. The team is part of the Independent Women’s Club Hockey league and competes in the Adirondack-West Division. We are an all-inclusive team and expect coaches to be respectful of the diversity within our player’s skill level as well as their gender identities.
On-ice practices are held two nights a week. They have previously been held at the Fitzpatrick Arena in Holyoke, however, we are currently exploring contracts with other nearby rinks. Any rink chosen will be within 20 minutes of our campus. A total of 10-12 games are scheduled for the season, all games being played on either Saturday or Sunday. The season begins roughly mid-October and the end of our season is roughly mid to late February. We also hold an end-of-the-year alum game in late February. Applicants are also expected to attend the start of the season meet-n-greet for new players as well as the end of the year banquet.

Qualifications: - College-level playing experience
- In-depth knowledge of hockey-specific training or USA Hockey Coaching Certification
- Strong leadership qualities and work ethic
- Understanding of team management and player development
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications: -Ability to teach students how to skate on the ice
Physical Demands: Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force
frequently to move objects
Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on
narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount of
balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
• Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is
important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities
and back muscles.
• Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
• Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
• Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Working Conditions: Cold- Working in an ice skating rink. Temperatures typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
