Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Warehouse
    • Receives all in-coming orders according to proper receiving procedures.
    • Checks invoices of incoming stock against order received.
    • Puts product away in respective designated locations in a timely manner.
    • Sweep, mop, scrub floors as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned by management.
    • Must be able to make sound decisions on an "as the situation arises" basis.
    • Monitor paperwork and inventory control (transfers, orders, shortages).
    • To receive goods properly, ascertaining that quantities and qualities are as ordered.
    • To store items in a timely, orderly fashion according to inventory control systems and date stamp all materials received.
    • To note and report immediately any damaged, spoiled or missing goods and/or equipment.
    • To select correct products in correct amounts while assembling campus transfers so product delivered to locations is accurate and on schedule, distributing them to correct locations as required.
    • Maintain the cleanliness of the facility and equipment of the residents hall M&C locations when students are not available to do so. Distributes M&C products as necessary for M& C program.
    • To return and dispose of items as necessary, including Cambros, Bakeshop equipment, picnic supplies, tables, grills, etc.
    • To ensure that Warehouse refrigeration temperatures and powerlift records are maintained according to Board of Health and OSHA standards.
    • To enforce and implement sanitation and safety codes regarding all areas of the Warehouse including equipment, tables, walls, floors of storerooms, receiving areas, loading dock, and refrigerators.
    • To perform scheduled inventories under the direction of the Production Manager and Assistant Director for Purchasing.
    • To adhere to inventory control systems, ensuring the safety and security of the Warehouse and its contents (i.e. transfers), according to established policy.
    • To operate the food service delivery vehicles consistent with the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the regulations of Mount Holyoke College.
    • Must be able to react to constant changes, interruptions and requests, therefore reassessing schedule in order to complete job tasks and assignments. This affects all Dining Services operations and delivery sites.
    • To maintain the security of delivery vehicles and the contents at all times, ensuring the proper housing of the vehicles when the work day is ended.
    • To recommend and abide by preventative maintenance schedules for delivery vehicles as needed, reporting any malfunctions or disorders as soon as they are evident. To keep all vehicles, clean both inside and outside on a regular basis.
    • Will be required to work overtime during special events especially at the beginning and end of the school year (Opening and Commencement / Reunions) & WHC special events as needed.
    • Performs other duties as assigned. 
  • Dining Center
    • Review transfer requests from previous night with Production Manager.
    • Review and communicate with Production Manager, Sous Chef or Assistant Director of Culinary Operations if any shorts that were called in or that will not be covered by the next day transfers or deliveries.
    • Take note of any low, out of stock or excessive items.
    • Communicate with Production Manager of any immediate needs. Gather and pull product for thaws and pre-production.
    • Issue stock that is above the needs that were forecasted, verify any shorts it may lead to and notify Production Manager.
    • Maintains clean and organized storage, receiving area walk-in and freezer.
    • Check needs and orders in FoodPro to determine if any low or missing product.
    • Notifies production Manager of any needs to Modify deliveries in FoodPro.
    • Responsible to check and change out Bag in Box bibs if needed.
    • Data entry – input invoices with management approval.
    • Responsible for taking inventory on weekly basis as directed by the Production Manager.
    • Must be able to work with others, including students, as well as work alone without supervision. Assists in training student workers where needed.

Qualifications: 

• Must have good general knowledge of warehouse operations and procedures, as well as food identification.
• Knowledge of basic computer skills and checking email is required.
• Must have good communication skills, both written and orally, with a sound understanding of the English language.
• Must be able to pass a DOT physical examination without restrictions.
• Must be able to repeatedly walk up and down stairs. (9 second floor landings at delivery locations)
• Must be able to give direction and instruct others.
• Good customer service skills and represents the department appropriately. Interacts professionally and respectfully with vendor delivery personnel, sales people, other college employees and students.
• Willingness to participate in a Serv Safe class to obtain Food Protection Manager Certification is required.
• Must be cooperative and willing to work with others. Must be neat in appearance and work habits, and must comply with safety and sanitation regulations as prescribed by law.
• Must comply with proper dress code as designated by Department.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Preferred to have at least three (3) years’ experience driving commercial vehicles. Must have the ability to drive and experience of driving a 20 ft. straight-bed truck. A commercial driver’s license (CDL) is desired.
• Preferred experience operating a forklift or willingness to take the operator’s certification which is required by OSHA.

License/Certifications: Servsafe Food Handlers

Compliance Requirements: Must be able to pass a DOT physical examination without restrictions.

Physical Demands: 

• Routinely lifts/moves an average of 50-70 pounds. May occasionally lift 100 pounds.
• Lifting: 50% or more time at work (requires bending and twisting).
• Must know proper lifting procedures.
• Ability to carry product a distance.
• Ability to lift 40-pound cases of product to a height of 7 feet and pull same cases from 7 feet.
• Able to work in a sub-zero Fahrenheit freezer for an hour or more at a time.
• Overhead lifting: 10% or more.
• Storing or removing product or equipment from shelves.
• Routinely on your feet throughout an 8-hour shift (often working alone during part of shift).
• Requires lots of walking throughout warehouse and in campus buildings with stairs
• Warehouse floor surface is concrete and is non-giving.
• Walking up and down stairs when retrieving product from storerooms and entering and exiting the building.
• Ability to climb up onto the truck cargo compartment that is at a height of 4 feet.
• Walking on ice and or snow.

Working Conditions: 

• Works around slippery surfaces due to spills, dropped foods, and machine chemical spills. Potentially hazardous areas of concern and exposure to equipment – uses or works near all of the following to receive orders, select products for transfers and to move deliveries by any of the following. Forklift, Powerjack walkie lift, Dock Plates, Truck gates, carts and ladders.
• Works around upright racks with wooden pallets that can be broken with exposed nails and sharp wooden shards
• Works around slippery surfaces due to spills, dropped foods, trips to dish room and pot sink to get equipment cleaned.
• Potentially hazardous areas of concern and exposure to equipment – uses or works near all of the following to prepare and serve food:
• Fryolators, Grills, Ovens, Steamers, Wok Inductions, Knives, Slicing equipment, Heavy and large pots, pans
• Sharp edges from open cans, and Works around tables with corners.
