Department Summary & Job Purpose:
The Senior Designer is an experienced creative communications professional who will be part of a strategic, results-oriented team. The Senior Designer will provide outstanding graphic design and creative support to the Office of Communications, campus partners, and Mount Holyoke College. This position is hybrid with a minimum of 2 days on-campus each week; however, due to the nature of the work, flexibility with the schedule may be granted by the AVP for Marketing & Communications.
Core Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Helps create and manage a consistent visual design vision, brand, and overall aesthetic for the College, including designing creative materials for traditional, digital, and social channels such as: icons, fliers, website banners, slide presentations, brochures, business cards, mascots, posters, logos, promotional displays, etc.
- Manage a thorough and consistent visual style guide (including logos, typefaces, brand assets, etc.) across the College
- Collaborate with the Office of Communications & Marketing team and stakeholders such as the offices of the President, Admission, and Development to define, create, and implement successful creative concepts and designs for marketing communications materials
- Create or contribute to project briefs; deliver creative materials on schedule and on budget, based on the approved brief
- Collaborate with stakeholders in concept, art direction, and writing of all print projects to deliver strategic and emotionally compelling design products
- Manage production of print designs from layout to final press
- Help manage the storage of digital assets and other design resources such as fonts, illustrations, design files, photography, etc.
- Assist Director of Strategic Content in managing outside vendors and other designers (freelancers) when needed
- Communicate openly and in a timely manner with multiple team members regarding project updates
- Support campus partners with ongoing creation and management of digital design template materials
- Serve on College committees, as determined by the Director of Strategic Content and the AVP of Marketing & Communications

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent; major, minor or programmatic focus in graphic design is preferred • 5-7 years of experience in graphic design and/or branding with strong conceptual, design and typography skills • Extensive knowledge of Adobe suite, in particular InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop • Experience creating multi-faceted design campaigns, using both print and digital • Must have strong project management skills and an attention to detail • Must have excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills • Must have the ability to work both independently and in a team environment • Must have the ability to meet tight deadlines, manage multiple priorities and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment • Must have a proactive attitude and approach to problem solving • Must be able to give and take creative direction and feedback in a constructive manner • Demonstrated ability to work across an institution or campus with multiple stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with photography, videography and/or ability to art direct photo/video shoots • Experience in education (in-house or an agency with education clients)
