Department Summary & Job Purpose:

The College's Controller's Office expertly handles a range of financial responsibilities. These include accounts payable, accounts receivable (excluding student accounts), cashiering, purchasing, purchasing cards, trusts, estates, gift and grant accounting, and tax and financial reporting. The Accountant plays an important role in executing these general accounting duties.

 

Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • The Accountant is responsible for carrying out the College's general accounting function. Areas of responsibility include tax reporting and withholding for foreign nationals, fixed asset accounting,
    sales, meals tax returns, and various account reconciliations. This position reports to the Controller.
  • The Accountant will prepare and file monthly sales and meals tax returns and determine the tax status of foreign nationals, advise on appropriate withholding, and prepare required filings; prepare schedules and working papers for the various College audits; perform monthly reconciliations of various balance sheet accounts, including certain cash accounts, preparing various monthly and year-end journal entries, and working on other assigned projects as needed.
  • We seek an individual who can work accurately under time pressures and deadlines and is detail-oriented with good analytical and quantitative skills. The candidate should be able to handle multiple
    projects, can work well independently and as part of a team with willingness and ability to learn new technologies and other skills. The candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications: 

• We seek an individual with a Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field who can work accurately under time pressures and deadlines, is detail-oriented with good judgment, and has analytical and quantitative skills.
• Two years of general accounting experience.
• Able to handle multiple projects, can work well independently and as part of a team with willingness and ability to learn new technologies and other skills.
• Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and have effective interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with micro and/or mainframe computer accounting applications; Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Access.
• Experience in tax reporting for foreign nationals is desirable.
• Experience with nonprofit accounting and Infor Lawson and/or OneSource Nonresident Alien Taxation software (Windstar) a plus.

License/Certifications:
