Department Summary & Job Purpose:
Lab Manager/Instructor supports the computer science department in its teaching endeavors. The position comprises Lab Manager and Instructor responsibilities. This 10-month full-time position is focused on Lab Management/Instruction during the semester for the first two courses in our Computer Science curriculum. The academic schedule of this position is mid-August to mid-May each year. In addition to the regular 10-month position, we expect to augment the position with one additional month of salary for the first year. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a small, vibrant department that creates innovative technology projects powered by talented undergraduate students!
Core Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with faculty in the planning, preparation, and evaluation of lab lessons; supervise lab periods; prepare and deliver lab lessons; answer student questions in person and via email; supervise student teaching assistants; grade lab assignments and/or homework; hold office hours. Attend department meetings to advise the department in decision-making.
Qualifications: Applicants must have strong programming skills and hold a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or have equivalent experience. Strong leadership qualities and excellent communication skills are essential as the candidate will interact with a diverse community of faculty, staff, and students, often under compressed timelines. Familiarity with Python, Java, Eclipse, and Linux command-line programming is beneficial.
