Department Summary & Job Purpose:
Department Summary: The Alumnae Association of Mount Holyoke College is an alum-led organization that uplifts Mount Holyoke alums and builds community that fosters lifelong learning and empowers impactful connections amongst alums and with the College.
Job Purpose: To broaden and deepen alum involvement through rewarding volunteer opportunities in support of Mount Holyoke College–expanding horizons for MHC students and strengthening the alum network and ties with the College through the cultivation and coordination of volunteer opportunities across campus.
Core Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with campus partners and the alum engagement team, inventory all current volunteer opportunities at Mount Holyoke College in order to develop a centralized hub of information, avoid duplication of efforts and clearly communicate with alums about volunteerism at the College
- Collaborate with communications partners to clearly and transparently communicate all campus volunteer opportunities to the broad alum community
- Coordinate with Association staff to design creative and compelling short-term volunteer opportunities that invite and enable participation of more Mount Holyoke alums than traditional long-term roles
- Develop and maintain metrics on volunteering at Mount Holyoke to help guide programmatic decisions
- Lead planning and execution of Mount Holyoke’s annual volunteer training; coordinate with relevant staff to develop an annual training program for volunteers that clearly maps out role-specific and general skill opportunities
- Provide direct support to associate directors in the engagement of volunteers, with a special focus on the following:
- Associate Director of Classes & Reunion: enhancing engagement with 80 volunteer class boards and supporting best-in-class reunion activities
- Associate Director of Groups and Clubs: enhancing engagement with 100 volunteer group and club boards
- Associate Director of Digital Engagement: establishing a new model for virtual volunteering in The Gates and other platforms
- Develop and enhance volunteer training materials
- Serve as the Alumnae Association’s business lead for the Volunteer Hub; lead training sessions in use of the Hub for volunteers, along with other relevant tools such as The Gates and Zoom
- Develop innovative and meaningful ways of recognizing and celebrating volunteer service that encourage further participation and community amplification of opportunities
- In collaboration with campus partners, develop and maintain a robust pipeline of alums to recommend for volunteer roles; work with the executive director and Association staff on creation of engagement portfolios for each team member
- Serve as staff lead for the Volunteer Experience Committee, a core group of alum volunteers whose chair serves on the Board of Directors, which provides support and strategic insight for carrying forward goals laid out in the strategic plan in relation to volunteerism specifically
- Supports Executive Director’s role as staff lead for the Nominating Committee of the Board of Directors, a group of alum volunteers which focuses on volunteer succession and recruitment
- Supervise student workers for relevant projects as needed
- Ensure that volunteer programming and outcomes embody the Association and College’s core commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
- Coordinate, in alignment with development staff, an annual volunteer training curriculum, stewardship and communications plan to support alum work to grow connections with one another and the College
- Partner with Association staff on key initiatives and opportunities that arise to further the Association mission and priorities
- Support major events, such as Reunion

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of experience in volunteer training and management
- Outstanding written communication and public speaking skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals from diverse communities
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse constituents
- Effective volunteer manager with the ability to recruit, train, engage, steward, recognize and lead volunteers toward meeting shared goals
- Detail-oriented, efficient and able to handle diversified tasks concurrently
- Experience with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access)
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn platforms and databases that are relevant to the role such as Colleague, PeopleGrove and SharePoint
- Ability to work with highly confidential information
- Some evening and weekend hours are involved (typically 3-4 weekends per year) and the ability to occasionally travel is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferred experience in alum relations or higher education
- Experience with Colleague, iModules, PeopleGrove and SharePoint
- Experience working with virtual communities is a plus
- US Driver’s license and ability to operate motor vehicle
License/Certifications:

Physical Demands:

- The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading.
