Work Schedule: Hours are generally 8:30am-5:00pm with flexible evening and weekend hours to meet the needs of the students and Professional Staff On-Call obligations.

The Division of Student Life cultivates a dynamic, engaged, and inclusive community that enriches the student experience, promotes wellness and belonging, and supports the purposeful development of every student.

The student life team does this through complementing the academic program and enhancing the Mount Holyoke College student experience through co-curricular opportunities, community building, and cultivation of student leadership as well as by providing resources and support that enable student well-being. We work closely with the academic centers and our campus partners on specific initiatives such as Be Well at Mount Holyoke. We also coordinate many College-wide initiatives including New Student Orientation, Family & Friends Weekend, our Living Learning Communities, the MoZone Peer Education Program, Interfaith Lunches, and the Leadership & Service Awards. This position pays a salary of $8,750 and includes room and board.


Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • This Graduate Assistant for Residential Community and Inclusion is a 30 hour a week position responsible for developing and implementing initiatives in the residence halls and cultural centers on campus through an intersectional lens. This position will support the diversity and inclusion work on campus by advising affinity-based Living Learning Communities, supporting cultural centers by providing administrative support for various Student Life functions. This position will serve in an on-call rotation for one week a month, responding to student crises and concerns as needed. The person fulfilling this role will be supervised by the Associate Dean of Students, Co-Director for Community and Belonging who assists in leading Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives in Student Life and will also have dual reporting to the Associate Dean of Students & Director of Residential Life.
  • Provide programmatic and administrative support for affinity based Living Learning Communities (Mary Woolley Floor, Shirley Chisholm Floor, MiGente Floor, and Mosaic Community)
  • Serve in Professional Staff on Call rotation, will spend one week a month on call as a Tier 1 responder.
  • Assist in the development, coordination and implementation of DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) programmatic initiatives which provides educational and cultural programming for students through the cultural centers and religious and spiritual life center, identity-based student groups (i.e, students of color committee, lavender committee, first-gen/low-income students, undocumented students)
  • Assist with the development and implementation of identity-based leadership training for cultural and/ or religious, and spiritual organizations. 
  • Co-supervising the Cultural Center student employees. 
  • Advise assigned Affiliated Cultural Center Student Organizations 
  • Assist in researching DEI best practices and data which supports the retention and persistence of historically marginalized communities and prepare reports of findings.
  • Develop creative engagement with students through various social media platforms
  • Serve on committees, work groups, and task forces at the request of supervisors
  • Attend various Division of Student Life meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisors in addition to assisting with general office tasks.

Employment Dates and Compensation:

  • Hrs/Wk: 20/30 hours per week during academic periods and 30/40 hours during training weeks
  • Stipend: $8750.00 plus Apartment and Meal Plan per academic year.
  • Dates of Appointment:
    • August 2- May 31 
    • Fall Semester including training and orientation: August- December
    • Spring Semester: January - May

Bachelors Degree from an accredited 4 year college or university.
Experience working in residential life and managing crisis situations
Strong problem solving skills
Demonstrate experience with academic, social, and/or cultural program development and implementation
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
Comfortable with leading presentations, discussions, and dialogues
Strong organizational skills
Willingness to work with individuals from different gender, sexual orientation/expression, national, ethnic, ability, social, religious, and economic backgrounds.
Comfortable and grounded in one’s own social identities and/ or experiences.
An understanding of identity development through an intersectional lens
Regular evening and some weekend work required

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficient in social media platforms.
Developing and creating flyers, posters, and other publicity and public relations experiences
Special attention given to someone with experience advising and developing programs to support students of color and/ or LGBTQIA+ communities.
Experience facilitating dialogues across difference

Physical Demands: 

• Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force
frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm
and/ or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the
worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as light work.
