Department Summary & Job Purpose:

The Office of Admission engages in a sophisticated and robust recruitment program to bring in a class of 525 first-year students each cycle. The Office of Admission processes over 4000 first year, transfer and Frances Perkins Scholar applications each year, approximately 1200 of which are from international students. Under the supervision of the Director of International Admission, the Associate Director of International Admission, is a strategic partner in the efforts to recruit and enroll the most qualified undergraduate students from around the world and conveys key institutional messages to prospective students and parents on- and off-campus and cultivate professional relationships with guidance counselors and educational organizations.

 

Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

Travel & Recruitment

  • Travel approximately 6 weeks per year (fall and spring), sometimes in collaboration with other colleges, visiting high schools overseas and delivering key messages about the College in public presentations to diverse audiences; discerning the most appropriate style of communication to effectively deliver messages to each unique audience population; creating electronic visuals to accompany the presentation
  • Plan recruitment trips in assigned travel territory (including liaison work with schools, counselors, and other educational stakeholders, in addition to prospective students and families)
  • Collaborate on program development, organization, and implementation of strategic admission initiatives relating to international recruitment and travel Represent the college internationally, at high schools and other recruitment venues. Staff college fairs, conduct interviews, deliver group information sessions, and represent the college at off-campus events
  • Create videos, as needed, to explain aspects of Mount Holyoke’s admission process and as required for virtual recruitment activities Reading & Evaluation
  • Partner with the Director of International Admission to assign reading territories, monitor staff reading progress, develop communication about incomplete applications and train domestic staff to understand English proficiency expectations and required financial qualifications
  • Read and evaluate applications from assigned territories
  • Guide and support applicants within assigned a territories, including individualized outreach
  • Consult with colleagues in Mount Holyoke's Office of Student Financial Services (SFS) about need-sensitive admission decisions Reporting & Analytics
  • Partner with the Director of International Admission to use coding tools to provide a hierarchy of possible decisions for each candidate
  • Assess effectiveness of annual recruitment travel; recommend changes and suggest new approaches Special Projects
  • Coordinate and manage specific constituent relationships or projects and serve as liaison to scholarship organizations such as the Grew Bancroft Foundation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree; a minimum of of five years professional experience in international admission, preferably in a selective college/university environment, including international recruitment travel
• Knowledge of a wide range of foreign education systems and testing programs
• Ability to use data to make strategic decisions
• Knowledge of major English proficiency tests
• Knowledge of Technolutions Slate or similar CRM
• Established relationships with college counselors and international admission colleagues
• A history of public presentations, including conferences such as International ACAC or the Council of International Schools
• Strong facility with Google Suite, Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel
• Experience setting up and conducting Zoom meetings and webinars, and utilizing appropriate visuals to accompany presentations
• Experience arranging admission events at venues in other countries
• Superior oral, analytic and written communication skills; ease and comfort with public speaking; an ability to engage with large and small audiences of prospective students, families, and counselors
• Ability to work collegially with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and visitors
• An appreciation of the liberal arts and an ability to communicate its value in a women’s college context
• Sense of humor and ability to remain flexible in carrying out multiple projects and tasks, sometimes with changing priorities

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge about and passion for women’s colleges and gender affirming communities
• Experience managing student employees
• Experience managing vendor relationships
• Experience working with alum volunteers
• Passion for traveling independently and an interest in learning about different cultures
• Proficiency in more than one language is preferred

License/Certifications: A current, valid US driver’s license and U. S. passport or U. S. work visa (non-U.S. citizens only)

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift and move travel materials and luggage weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to stand for extended periods during college fairs, ranging from 1-4 hours at a time, and public presentations
• Ability to travel in hot climates and at high altitude (short stints above 7500 feet) are possible
• Ability to speak comfortably and confidently in front of large groups of people is essential
• Ability communicate with students and other constituents daily by telephone, e-mail, or in person
• Ability to operate office equipment and computers (sometimes spending full days using a computer) to perform essential duties

Working Conditions: Evening and weekend work expected during peak busy seasons in recruitment and selection cycles (fall, winter and early spring); a willingness to work before or beyond official business hours to complete tasks in a timely manner.
