Work Schedule: Weekdays M, T, Th, F. Two 3-4 hour reading blocks, typically between the hours of 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Department Summary & Job Purpose:

The Office of Admission engages in a sophisticated and robust recruitment program to bring in a class of 525 first-year students each cycle. The Office of Admission processes over 4000 first year, transfer and Frances Perkins Scholar applications each year. Under the supervision of the Director of International Admission and Director of US Admission the Seasonal Admission Application Reader is an important partner in the effort to select the most qualified undergraduate students from around the world.

 

Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • The Mount Holyoke College Office of Admission is seeking application readers for the 2021-2022 reading cycle. These part-time, temporary positions assist in the holistic review of the first year application. Readers will be selected to do “partner review” for either the domestic or international pool based on experience, and will complete a short written summary of each application. Application components include the main application, a Mount Holyoke Supplement, teacher recommendations, transcript, school report, interview report, and other documents submitted. All reading and review is web-based and completed on our CRM, Slate.
  • The approximate time commitment is as follows: 10-15 hours per week in the first half of December and 15-25 hours per week in January and February.
  • Readers will complete technical training on navigating the web-based reading software (Slate) and on the criteria used in the overall evaluation process. These mandatory training sessions will take place in early December.
  • Application readers will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement.
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience and ranges from $20-25/hour.

Qualifications

Domestic application review:
- Bachelor’s degree required, plus 2-3 years of graduate school or professional work experience.
- College admission experience strongly preferred.
- Understanding of a liberal arts education is preferred.
- Experience handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Well-developed computer skills and solid writing and analytical abilities.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational and time management skills. We are looking for candidates who can read carefully and efficiently.
- An understanding of the values of equity and inclusion and sensitivity to the experiences of underrepresented students.

International application review:
- Bachelor’s degree required, plus at least 3 years of professional admission experience, preferably at a liberal arts college.
- Understanding of educational systems and international students from Asia and the Indian Subcontinent.
- Experience handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Well-developed computer skills and solid writing and analytical abilities.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational and time management skills. We are looking for candidates who can read carefully and efficiently.
- An understanding of the values of equity and inclusion and sensitivity to the experiences of underrepresented students.

To avoid any potential conflict of interest, we will not consider candidates for whom any of the following apply:

License/Certifications: Must be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident.

Physical Demands: 
• Employee operates office equipment and computers to perform essential duties and
responsibilities

Working Conditions: 
• Readers are expected to use a College-issued laptop
• Regular work week but may require additional evening and weekend work as necessary.
• If completing work remotely, access to a reliable WiFi network is required
