The Office of Admission engages a sophisticated and robust recruitment program to bring in a class of 545 first-year students each cycle. The Office of Admission processes nearly 5000 first year applications, transfer and Frances Perkins Scholar applications for admission each year. The Associate Director for Access and Inclusion, under the supervision of the Director of Admission (US) and Campus Visit Experience, is charged with supporting the strategic work being undertaken to map a long-term plan that builds on Mount Holyoke’s successful recruitment program for first-generation, low-income students and students of color. The Associate Director will convey key institutional messages to prospective students and parents on- and off-campus and cultivate professional relationships with guidance counselors and key educational organizations.

 

Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • 40% - Travel & Recruitment Up to 8 weeks per year (fall and spring) visiting high schools and delivering key messages about the College in public presentations (information sessions) to diverse audiences; discern most appropriate style of communication to effectively deliver messages to each unique audience population Schedule recruitment appointments in assigned travel territory (including liaison work with schools, counselors, and other educational stakeholders, in addition to prospective students and families) Collaborate on program development, organization, and implementation of strategic admission initiatives relating to recruitment and travel and special areas of focus Offer in-person and virtual information sessions and interviews to prospective and admitted students Represent the college nationally, and if required, internationally, at high schools and other recruitment venues. Staff college fairs, conduct interviews, deliver group information sessions, and represent the college at off-campus events - 
  • 35% - Program Responsibilities Collaborate with the Director of U.S. Admission and Campus Visit Experience to build competency across the department in understanding issues facing students who identify as first-generation, low-income and/or students of color Represent the Office of Admission on campus-wide committees with involvement in The First Generation Network other committees with a primary focus on building and sustaining access, equity and inclusion initiatives In collaboration with the Dean and Director, design and execute a strategic plan for the recruitment and enrollment of historically underrepresented populations Supervise an Assistant Director of Admission for Access and Inclusion Generate and maintain Memorandum of Understanding documents with desired Community-Based Organizations and secondary school partners Manage and maintain office and individual membership as an Institutional Liaison for ABAFAOILSS (The Association of Black Admissions and Financial Aid Officers of the Ivy League and Sister Schools) and NECBAC (the Northeast Consortium Bridging Access to College), access-centered professional development organizations Plan, build, and facilitate virtual and in-person engagement opportunities during the application and yield cycle, with specific focus on programs that serve historically underrepresented communities Facilitate the involvement of admission ambassadors in virtual and in-person engagement opportunities (including phone-a-thons) during the recruitment and yield seasons and assess the success and effectiveness of student participation and training Perform other duties as assigned
  • 20% - Reading & Evaluation Read and evaluate applications from assigned international territories Guide and support applicants within assigned territories, including individualized outreach to applicants 
  • 5% - Reporting & Analytics Assess effectiveness of annual recruitment travel by using data analytics platforms and information; recommend changes and suggest new approaches in annual report format

Receiving over 5,000 applications for first-year, transfer and Frances Perkins Scholar admission, the Office of Admission engages a sophisticated and robust recruitment program to bring in a class of 545 first-year students each cycle. The Associate Director for Access, Inclusion and Admission Events, under the supervision of the Director of Admission (US) and Campus Visit Experience, is charged with supporting the strategic work being undertaken to map a long-term plan that builds on Mount Holyoke’s successful recruitment program for first-generation, low-income students and students of color. The Associate Director will convey key institutional messages to prospective students and parents on- and off-campus and cultivate professional relationships with guidance counselors and key educational organizations.  

Duties and responsibilities:

Program Responsibilities (40%):

  • Building Core Competencies: 
    • Collaborate with the Director of Admission (US) and Campus Visit Experience  to build competency across the department in understanding issues facing transfer students and students who identify as first-generation, low-income and/or students of color, and for students who come from 2-year transfer systems. 
  • Committee Work: 
    • Represent the Office of Admission on campus-wide committees with a primary focus on building and sustaining access, equity and inclusion initiatives
    • Collaborate with campus partners, including Student Financial Services, Student Life,  the Registrar, Residential Life, and faculty to 1) ensure that our community college transfer initiatives align with College strategic priorities and 2) to ensure smooth onboarding of matriculating community college transfers.
    • Serve as a member of the enrollment management leadership team on behalf of students of color, community college transfer students, first-generation and low-income students. Keep department and division partners informed of work and initiatives.
    • Serve as the Admission Office Representative on the First Generation Low-Income (FGLI) Network, and represent the office at all major programmatic events and regular business meetings.
  • Strategic Planning: 
    • In collaboration with the Dean and Director, design and execute a strategic plan for the recruitment and enrollment of historically underrepresented populations
    • Stay current with community college transfer trends in higher education, including developments and issues and policies pertaining to best practices as well as practical realities impacting the transfer pipeline; make strategic and programmatic recommendations that align with these realities.
  • Building Partnerships: 
    • Generate and maintain Memorandum of Understanding documents with desired Community-Based Organizations and secondary school partners
    • Maintaining existing transfer partnerships and identifying and cultivating new transfer partnerships with community college liaisons and with non-profit and professional organizations dedicated to transfers, including but not limited to: The American Talent Initiative, the Transfer Scholars Network, Honors Transfer Council of California and the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. 
    • Manage and maintain office and individual  membership as an Institutional Liaison for ABAFAOILSS (The Association of Black Admissions and Financial Aid Officers of the Ivy League and Sister Schools) and NECBAC (the Northeast Consortium Bridging Access to College), access-centered professional development organizations
  • Events: 

    • Plan, build, and facilitate virtual and in-person engagement opportunities during the application and yield cycle, with specific focus on 
      • programs that serve historically underrepresented communities 
      • Programs that serve two-year community college transfer students
    • Facilitate the involvement of admission ambassadors in virtual and in-person engagement opportunities (including phone-a-thons) during the recruitment and yield seasons and assess the success and effectiveness of student participation and training
  • Personnel: 
    • Supervise two Assistant Directors of Admission and their individualized support of programming for transfer students and historically underrepresented students. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Travel & Recruitment (20%):

  • Up to 6 weeks per year (fall and spring) visiting high schools and delivering key messages about the College in public presentations (information sessions) to diverse audiences; discern most appropriate style of communication to effectively deliver messages to each unique audience population
  • Develop, schedule and conduct recruitment appointments in assigned travel territories (including liaison work with schools, counselors, and other educational stakeholders, in addition to prospective students and families).
    • Plan and execute travel (virtual and/or in-person) for domestic territories including community college visits
  • Collaborate on program development, organization, and implementation of strategic admission initiatives relating to recruitment and travel for special populations.
  • Offer in-person and virtual information sessions and interviews to prospective and admitted students
  • Represent the college nationally, and if required, internationally, at high schools and other recruitment venues. Staff college fairs, conduct interviews, deliver group information sessions, and represent the college at off-campus events

Reading & Evaluation (30%):

  • Coordinate and structure application processing and reader evaluation for all transfer applicants from both 2-year institutions for both fall and spring cycles. 
  • Partner with Senior Associate Director for Enrollment Systems on cyclical updates to transfer application platform
  • Read and evaluate applications from assigned first-year applicant territories 
  • Guide and support applicants within assigned territories, including individualized outreach to applicants

Reporting,  Analytics, and Assessment (10%):

  • Assess effectiveness of annual recruitment travel by using data analytics platforms and information; recommend changes and suggest new approaches in annual report format
  • Assess effectiveness of annual search purchases and vendor partnerships for special populations and provide recommendations for continuation of contracts and/or new contracts
  • Prepare annual assessment of transfer recruitment program.
  • Recommend efficiencies in areas of programmatic responsibility

 

Direct reports

  • 1 Assistant Director of Admission for Access and Inclusion
  • 1 Assistant Director of Admission for Community College Transfer
  • Student-staff supervision

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; a minimum of 3-5 years experience in admission or related field 
  • Ability to work collegially with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on a daily basis
  • Superior oral, analytic and written communication skills; effective public speaking; an ability to engage with large audiences of prospective students, families, and college counselors
  • Experience with Technolutions Slate CRM; facility
  • Ability to use data to make strategic decisions 
  • An understanding of the liberal arts and an ability to communicate its value in a women’s college context clearly, cogently, and confidently
  • Sense of humor and ability to remain flexible and nimble in carrying out multiple projects and tasks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree
  • 5 or more years of experience in positions of progressively increasing responsibility in admission or enrollment management
  • Familiarity with Ellucian’s Colleague system
  • Fluent oral communication skills in a language other than English
  • Experience working in a selective college/university admission environment
  • Knowledge about and passion for women’s colleges and gender affirming communities
  • Passion for traveling independently and an interest in learning about high school students

License/Certifications:

A current, valid U.S. driver’s license and passport (or passport eligibility).

  • Physical Demands
  • Some lifting (travel materials) required, ranging from 0-50 pounds.  Prolonged periods standing (college fairs) required, ranging from 1-4 hours at a time.
