Department Summary & Job Purpose:

The Support Services Assistant / Driver supports the daily operation of the Mail and Copy Centers. The Support Services Assistant / Driver receives and sorts all faculty and staff mail and packages from all carriers and shall also be required to deliver faculty and staff mail and parcels to campus locations. The role also processes print and copy jobs in the Copy Center. The Support Services Assistant / Driver reports directly to the Supervisor Mail and Copy Services.

Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Mail Center
    •  Receives and sorts all faculty, staff and student mail and packages; prepares that mail for delivery to campus locations
    • Drive College owned vehicle in order to deliver faculty, staff and administrative mail and packages to designated campus locations 2 days per week or more if coverage is needed.
    • Processes outgoing mail utilizing a computerized postage meter, including weighing and rating all classes of mail.
    • Processes and researches shipments through other private carriers’ software applications
    • Provides guidance to student employees to ensure the orderly completion of tasks and smooth flow of customers
    • Advises departments on the most cost effective mailing options.
    • Resolves lost package issues with members of the community
    • Assists with customer service at the front service counter
    • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Copy Center
    • Maintains orderly file system for copy center on network drives
    • Serves as backup liaison to the campus for the Copy Center and is thoroughly knowledgeable of various copy products available, understands the customer’s copy product needs, provides options to satisfy those needs
    • Schedules and processes print jobs including finishing services (lamination, binding, cutting, etc.)
    • Ensures the security of sensitive documents
    • Utilizes digital printing software for desktop publishing
    • Maintains inventory of supplies needed to keep the Copy Center operational (toner, paper, etc.)
    • Performs daily routine maintenance on equipment and color calibration on color press; requests maintenance service when required
    • Calculates pricing for copy requests and enters daily and monthly billing entries


• 3 years of experience working in mail services or distribution preferred but will train
• Must possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license
• Must be able to complete and maintain the College’s driver credentialing program
• Must provide a copy of RMV driving record
• Visual acuity in order to examine printing products and make adjustment in the quality of the finished product
• Strong attention to detail
• Knowledge of current postal regulations, rates and processes preferred but will train
• Commitment to customer service and diplomacy; including strong interpersonal skills
• Possesses integrity, ethics and respect for confidentiality
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multifaceted organization
• Proficiency with using software including database and spreadsheet applications
• Able to work in a team environment, as well as individually
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task several assignments at the same time

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Valid Massachusetts drivers license

Physical Demands: 

• Frequently stand/walk, sit, perform desk based computer tasks, use a telephone, and grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
• Occasionally twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.
• Occasionally kneel/crawl, operate foot and/or hand controls.

Working Conditions: 

• Work is performed in both interior/exterior environments in all weather conditions
• Travel on campus to departments/buildings or to local off-campus locations is also required
