The Department of Film Media Theater at Mount Holyoke College seeks a one year Visiting Lecturer in Film Media Theater; Lighting and Sound Design to begin July 1, 2024. The successful candidate will teach classes in lighting and sound design, design for mainstage productions, as well as provide mentorship to student lighting and sound designers. This position will be assigned an instructional 3/2 workload; your mainstage design responsibilities and student designer mentorship count as two courses.

Ideal candidates will have experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate students, and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills. This position requires frequent evening and weekend hours.

● MFA in Lighting/Sound design and practical professional experience as a designer (preference will be given to candidates with experience with multi-media, projection and video design).
● Must possess significant familiarity with the programming and running of various lighting equipment and control systems, as well as QLab-based audio and video production, VectorWorks, Lightwright, and other lighting/media control software platforms. This includes live mixed and playback audio sources, as well as projectors, control computers and all required networking and data systems.
● Applicants should also be committed to inclusive pedagogies in their teaching, scholarship, and artistry.

● Teach three courses each year, which may include all levels of lighting and sound design and technology, introduction to theater, and other related design courses
● Provide lighting and sound design for selected mainstage productions as well as provide mentorship to student lighting and sound designers on mainstage productions
● Attend all production meetings, and liaise with directors, production managers and designers about technical needs, and ensure all production schedule deadlines are met
● Train student light board operator, and sound board operator for all productions
● Work with TD/PM or relevant faculty to source student crew for productions, organize and direct all light hang and focus for all theater productions, organize and maintain inventory of lighting instruments, projectors, microphones and other electrical equipment
● Attend all lighting & sound work calls, technical rehearsals, performances and strikes
● Maintaining a record of professional creative work outside the department will be encouraged.
