Department Summary & Job Purpose:

The Facilities Management department supports the administration, faculty, staff, and students in the quality planning and development of facilities projects that support our mission. Our talented staff of approximately 140 FTEs (Cleaning, Mechanical Trades, Central Heating Plant, Grounds, Carpentry, Stockroom, EH&S, Fleet Services, and Mail Services & Duplication) are responsible for more than 2,000,000 SF of property in over 60+ major buildings and for maintaining more than 300 acres.

The Van Driver will drive Mount Holyoke College students to community-based organizations (primarily in Holyoke and South Hadley). The Community-Based Learning Department will determine the route and stops based on student needs. The driver will typically use a college-owned 12-passenger van two days a week. The Van Driver will drive students to the local CVS/Mall weekly.

 

Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Driving college-owned vehicles to off-campus locations as scheduled.
  • Serving as a backup for the access ride vehicle or for off-campus trips.
  • Acting as the lead for all college-owned vehicle maintenance, including scheduling service appointments, completing maintenance tasks, and ensuring that all vehicles are cleaned and sanitized according to the protocols.
  • Performing any other duties assigned to you by the college authorities.

Qualifications: 

  • The position requires at least 3 to 5 years of driving experience, which can include work as a commercial driver, shuttle driver, chauffeur, or other relevant roles. This experience should demonstrate your ability to drive safely and responsibly under different conditions and environments.
  • To be considered for the position, you must hold a valid government-issued driver’s license, which must be presented and verified during the hiring process.
  • An excellent driving record is essential for this role. Any violations or incidents on your driving record will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • As a driver, you will be expected to drive with care and superior judgment at all times, considering the safety of yourself, your passengers, and other road users. You must also adhere to all traffic regulations and follow the College’s driving policies and procedures.
  • Professionalism is a critical aspect of the job, and you must maintain a professional demeanor and appearance while on duty. This includes communicating effectively with passengers, respecting their privacy, and ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the journey.
  • Completing the College’s driver credentialing program successfully is mandatory for this position. The program includes training and assessments on safe driving. You must pass all tests and evaluations to obtain the required credentials and maintain them throughout your employment.

•Essential job function requires sitting (driving) for long periods of time.
•Essential job function requires the operation of foot and/or hand controls.
•Occasionally twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, write by hand, sort/file paperwork, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 25 pounds.
