Work type: Faculty Full-time, Faculty Salaried Visitor Full Time
Location: South Hadley, MA

The Department of Physics at Mount Holyoke College seeks a Visiting Lecturer to begin July 1, 2024, for a one year appointment. We are searching broadly for candidates with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching physics and a passion for engaging a diverse population of undergraduate students. The position is a 3/2 teaching load. Areas of study/specialization are open, with the expectation that successful candidates can teach any introductory physics course, and some upper division courses.

The Physics Department at Mount Holyoke is small but thriving. Six faculty members, with support from the physics technician and department coordinator, support coursework and activities for all levels of physics students, and we graduate 10-15 majors each year. We also pride ourselves on providing opportunities for students to engage with potentially publishable research as early as their first year.

Candidates should have experience teaching at the undergraduate level, and interests in teaching and mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. Completion of a PhD in Physics or a related field (e.g. Astronomy, Engineering, or STEM Education) or ABD required; strong candidates with a Master’s degree will be considered. Candidates will be required to submit three statements concerning (1) teaching philosophy, (2) research interests, and (3) approach to mentoring a diverse student body. While research productivity is NOT an expectation of this job, we are curious to know what expertise you might bring. For those candidates wishing to engage in research or other professional activities, there are mechanisms of support for professional development.

We will begin reviewing applications on February 1st and continue until the position is filled. Questions? Contact the Chair of Physics, Kerstin Nordstrom knordstr@mtholyoke.edu.
